Energy is the ability to do work. Energy comes in different forms. Energy is the capacity of a physical system to do work. The common symbol for energy is the uppercase letter E. The standard unit is the joule, symbolized by J. Energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The motion and energy is the ability to do work, and work is moving something against a force, like gravity. Energy can be found in many things and takes many forms. There is a kind of energy called kinetic energy in objects that are moving. When we eat, our bodies transform the food into energy to do work. When we run or walk or do some work, we ‘burn’ energy in our bodies. Energy is causing things to happen all around us. During the day, the sun gives out light and heat energy. At night, street lamps use electrical energy to make light. Energy makes everything happen-in people, plants and machines – and can be divided into two different types: Energy that is stored is called potential energy.
Types of energy and example:
- Thermal energy: Thermal energy or heat energy reflects the temperature difference between two systems.
Example: A cup of hot coffee has thermal energy. You generate heat and have thermal energy with respect to your environment.
- Mechanical energy: Mechanical energy is energy that results from movement or the location of an object. Mechanical energy is the sum of kinetic energy and potential energy coffee education.
Examples: An object possessing mechanical energy has both kinetic and potential energy, although the energy of one of the forms may be equal to zero.
- Chemical energy: Chemical energy results from chemical reactions between atoms or molecules. There are different types of chemical energy, such as electrochemical energy and chemiluminescence.

- Electromagnetic energy: Electromagnetic energy (or radiant energy) is energy from light or electromagnetic waves.
Example: Any form of light has electromagnetic energy, including parts of the spectrum we can’t see. Radio, gamma rays, x-rays, microwaves, and ultraviolet light are some examples of electromagnetic energy.
- Sonic energy: Sonic energy is the energy of sound waves. Sound waves travel through air or another medium.
Example: A sonic boom, a song played on a stereo, your voice
Importance of energy:
Energy is defined as the capacity to work. They include watching television, washing clothes, heating and lighting the home, taking a shower, working from home on a laptop or on the computer, running appliances and cooking. It is almost the cause of so many things going on around us when we eat our bodies stored energy through the food and this energy turn into for allowing us to do action in any business. Energy is very important in day to day life. Electricity is one of the most important blessings that science has given to mankind. It has also become a part of modern life and one cannot think of a world without it. Electricity has many uses in our day to day life. It is used for lighting rooms, working fans and domestic appliances like using electric stoves.
