Sustainable energy is energy that brings balance in the rate of consumption of energy. The organizing principle of sustainable energy is sustainable development. Sustainable development includes four main sectors viz., ecology, economics, politics, and culture.
Sustainable energy means that types of energy which by its use doesn’t cause any danger to the future reserves of energy. By use of sustainable energy and sustainable methods, there is no danger of damage or depletion, and it can be used over and over again. After world war, there have been various international conventions, to promote sustainable development. Some of the protocols were; Nairobi convention, Rio convention, and many others. In all such convention Nations all around globe mutually agreed to adopt a sustainable model of development to cause minimal loss to nature and to preserve energy for future generations.
Sustainable energy can also be referred to merely as renewable energy. All renewable energies like wind, solar, tidal, geothermal, etc. are sustainable energy. A power that is stable and available in plenty is sustainable energy.
The significance of sustainable energy:
In ancient period biomass like wood, dry leaves, trees, and waste products were the only sources of power then. Later with technological development emerged fossil fuels. Fossil fuel was used to a large extent by human due to it enormous availability. Fossil fuels became the primary source of energy. But then people started to release that along with the merits of fossil fuels there are serious demerits too. The use of fossil fuels in large a large extent has caused degradation of the environment. Because of the massive use of fossil fuels like coal and oils, there are drastic climate changes and rise in global warming. It was almost about complete exploitation of environment that people realized that their activities are deadly and leading to the path of global destruction.
This growing crisis, increased pollution, and global warming compelled the scientists to search for the new but reliable source of energy. The energy that would cause no harm to nature. Then they came up with the idea of sustainable energy. As durable energy canon, one hand fulfills our demands and on the other hand also protect the environment.
TYPES OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY:
Solar energy is the best form of energy. It is renewable and sustainable. It is available in plenty. It can cause no harm to the environment. Solar energy can be used in any form by converting solar energy into electrical energy or chemical energy or even to mechanical strength. It is the best source of energy that can save our planet.
Wind energy is the energy that is obtained from the force of moving air. Wind energy is natural energy. It’s can also be used in multiple ways. As wind is itself part of nature, its use can cause no ill-harm to the character.
Geothermal energy is that energy which is obtained beneath the earth. Geothermal power plants are installed which convert the heat energy beneath the earth surface into electrical energy, which can be used for many different purposes. They are environment-friendly and can be used to produce electricity throughout the year.
Oceanic energy and hydroelectric energy:
It is a well-known fact that about 70 % of the earth is covered with water. The force of this water can use, with the help of turbines to convert into electrical energy. Hydroelectric power plants are set-up at places near the water bodies by constructing dams. In this process potential energy of water is converted into kinetic energy, which rotates the turbines and produces electricity. Use of this energy is sustainable in environment-friendly.
The energy that is obtained by processing household and agricultural waste is called biomass. These are renewable energy and are available in plenty.
